Taylor Finishes 2nd, Four Others Finish Top 25
Verona, NY (October 5, 2009)…Coming into this week’s PGA Tour’s Turning Stone Resort Championship, Hooters Tour alumni Vaughn Taylor found himself outside of the Top 125 and in jeopardy of losing his playing privileges for 2010 but a strong second place finish has vaulted the Augusta, Georgia native well inside the Top 125. (Pictured left: Vaughn Taylor).Taylor carded rounds of 67-67-71-66 for a four day total of seventeen-under par 271 and spot in a playoff with Matt Kuchar. After two holes of sudden death playoff on Sunday evening, play was suspended due to darkness and resumed Monday morning with Kuchar paring the sixth hole while Taylor made double bogey after hitting his tee shot in the hazard.
With his second place finish at The Turning Stone Resort Championship, Taylor collects $648,000 and moves from 131st on the money list to 72nd with $1,167,282 in earnings and locks up his 2010 PGA TOUR card.
Taylor, the 1999 Rookie of the Year on the Hooters Tour, was a member of the Hooters Tour from 1999-2003 and collected four wins in his four plus years on the tour.
Vaughn recently was the special guest host for the Hooters Tour’s 10th annual Kandy Waters Memorial Classic pro-am in Augusta, Georgia at Gordon Lakes golf club inside Fort Gordon on Wednesday, September 23, 2009. Taylor wasn’t the only former Hooters Tour player that played well during The Turning Stone Resort Championship as fellow alums Scott Piercy (T-12), Scott Gutzchewski (T-18), James Nitties (T-18) and Jason Bohn (T-23) all finished in the Top 25 for the week.
While these players made statements on the PGA Tour Sunday, fellow alums Derek Lamely (2nd), Brian Stuard (T-3), Craig Bowden (T-6), Justin Hicks (T-8), Michael Sims (T-11), Chad Collins (T-14), current member Justin Smith (T-18), Sal Spallone (T-18) and Garrett Willis (T-23) all played well in the Nationwide Tour's Soboba Classic in San Jacinta, California.
